LGBTQ+ Support

The London Gay Symphony Orchestra was founded in May 1996 by a group of friends led by Robin Gordon-Powell, who was the Orchestra’s first conductor. The Orchestra rapidly grew in size and in October 1996 gave its first performances as a full symphony orchestra at London’s Drill Hall.

The Fourth Choir was founded in September 2013 by a group of LGBT + singers aspiring to sing classical and modern choral works to the highest possible standard. Their goal is to represent the LGBT + community on London’s world-class classical music scene.

The Pink Singers are a fun, friendly LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans) choir based in London. They’ve been singing since 1983, making them the longest-running LGBT+ choir in Europe!

In 1991, nine friends came together to sing a few Christmas carols at Angel Underground Station hoping to raise a few pounds for the Terrence Higgins Trust. London was in the midst of the AIDS crisis and the men, who belonged to a social group called London Friend sang together to find a place of support, of friendship and of brotherhood. Little did they know what they had kickstarted.

We like to sing diverse music, participate in the community and have fun. Building on our successes, performances have included a very diverse repertoire, ranging from the middle ages to the contemporary, from Mozart to ABBA and back again. We usually perform two of our own hosted concerts each year, a Summer and Winter concert. These concerts are performed in churches such as St John’s Waterloo and St James’s Piccadilly.

Proud Voices is a group of representatives from LGBT choirs across the UK and Ireland. We've come together to build upon the relationships between us, share information and support each other. We can be found all across the the UK and Ireland, and with decades of pooled experience in starting and running choirs in all sorts of contexts between us, we want to give a leg up to new choirs and each other.

The Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra is the Midland's LGBT orchestra. BGSO promotes musical talent directly from within the LGBT community, illuminating the diversity that exists within it to the wider community and beyond. As an LGBT orchestra we provide a safe ‘non-scene’ environment centred around a shared interest where people can come together to express who they are without any additional pressure or expectations. We welcome all musicians whether they identify as LGBT or not.

Launched in 2008, Bay Area Rainbow Symphony™ (BARS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer identified (LGBTQ) musicians and composers toward the goal of broad crossover appeal and excellence in the performing arts. BARS is synonymous with excellence and distinction in the performing arts and community building.

Based in New York City, the Stonewall Chorale is the nation's first gay and lesbian chorus. Our mission is to enrich people's lives through learning and performing beautiful choral music, and to nurture and celebrate the community we create together.

Youth Pride Chorus harnesses the power of the performing arts to galvanize lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight young people ages 13-22 as agents of change. YPC refuses homophobia, bullying, and all forms of hate by boldly asserting the joy, diversity, strength, and pride of today's youth. YPC singers discover their own power by empowering others in schools, online, and for the general public through electrifying performances of the highest calibre.

Spectrum Ensemble is music group based in Denton, Texas, striving to increase visibility of talented Queer musicians and composers. We commission new works by Queer composers and perform those works, alongside works of famous Queer composers throughout history, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area and around the country.

Cor Flammae is a project by queer singers and conductors to explore unsung queer perspectives in classical choral music. We create choral music experiences for queer people, by queer people, and deepen the understanding of historical and modern queer experiences for everyone.

France’s Rainbow Symphony welcomes anyone from within or outside the LGBTQ+ community, as long as they uphold the orchestra’s values of upholding the rights and freedoms of everyone. The orchestra, which is “apolitical”, was created in 1996.

Germany’s fourth city is home to one of the largest LGBTQ+ communities in the world, and at the classical music heart of it is the Cologne Rainbow Symphony. The orchestra, formed in 2007, “wants to set an example against discrimination of any kind” and promotes diversity beyond sexuality in order to address other forms of discrimination faced by humans the world over.

Lakeside Pride Music Ensembles is Chicago’s premier family of performance groups for members and friends of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) community. Home to four major ensembles – Jazz Orchestra, Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and Pops Ensemble – plus over a dozen chamber ensembles, the organization offers a diverse musical experience for both its audience and its members.

Mission: D.C.’s Different Drummers is a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender music organization welcoming ALL musicians as it fosters pride, inclusivity, and engagement with the greater Washington, D.C. region through music.
